Founded in the end of 2008, environmental group “ECOperestroika” cooperates with a number of environmental and human rights organizations (among others - Ecodefense, Green World, Save Yuntolovo, Greenpeace, Memorial und anarchists). For our campaigns we engage experts in nuclear physics, ecological scientists and lawyers.
Details: Import of uranium tails – and our protests
Depleted uranium hexafluoride, or uranium tails are a side produce to the uranium enrichment process in making fuel for nuclear power plants and warheads.

July, 17 2009: ECOperestroika, Ecodefense! and Finnish association for Nature Conservation demand international EIA of Leningrad NPP-2 and Baltic NPP projects
At a joint press-conference in Helsinki on July, 17 ECOperestroika, Ecodefense! and Suomen luonnonsuojeluliitto appealed for an international environmental impact assessment and public hearings of projects of Leningrad NPP-2 and Baltic NPP, according to Espoo convention (it was signed by Russia, and is declared to be used as a guideline for Russian ministries, though it is not ratified).
June, 16 2009: ECOperestroika protests in the frontier zone during the public hearings concerning new nuclear power plant
A protest was held today in Sosnovy Bor (Leningrad region), border zone territory, where Leningrad nuclear power plant is situated. Activists "ECOperestroika", "Ecodefense!" and anarchists expressed their attitude to the plans for construction a new dangerous and economically non-viable power plant near St Petersburg.
